English: Sketch of the effective potential curve Ueff(r) for a Newtonian/Coulombic potential as a function on the radial distance r, showing the contribution in -1/r of the newtonian potential and in 1/r2 of the centrifugal barrier. This type of "effective" potential appears in the hamiltonian of a particle subjected to a central force, when the problem is reduced to a one-dimensional form.
